Made with hand-knotted wool and originating circa 1960-1970, this 4x8 vintage rug is an exciting new piece, a rare curation believed to hail from mid-century Turkish artist and icon Zeki Muren.
This piece uses a wide range of green tones, from the overall sage tone to hins of chartreuse and olive, in its fine border and field alike. Keen eyes for detail will admire the fabulous curves in the all over pattern, a gracious play of florals, in which admirers of the craft may note a subtle influence from vintage and antique Persian rugs of the Herati style (or fish pattern, as its named for this elegant, almost swimming sensibility). Motifs in green, beige/brown, off-white and similar hues. It’s a light and playful piece with the whimsy of a Zeki Muren rug, but also with the comfortable and livable undertone that his works also embody, so thoughtful in their approach to the postmodernist appeal of the time and collectible in his works curated today.
Condition:
This mid-century rug enjoys good condition for its age and origin. Its pile height has been lowered to preserve its construction, which lends it the distressed look of wear and boho chic in the nap, a low pile height well-suited to swinging and sliding doors, among many clearance-conscious design applications.
