Hand woven in banana silk, Rug & Kilim presents an 8×10 Swedish flat weave inspiration from their award-winning Scandinavian Collection with a texture second to none, enjoying a geometric pattern resembling musical notes in a muted colorway of beige, brown & off white tones. A quiet & elegant piece with unparalleled tactility, amply versatile to compliment interiors of different styles. Affectionately dubbed our “Watson” texture in homage to its collaborative inspiration. Custom Capable: Please note all custom orders are subject to a 3-day return policy upon receipt of the CAD, at which point a full refund may be honored. Yarn samples can be made available during the process on loom as well, subject to the 3-day window without prior approval of extension. All custom sales following the approved CAD are final without these exceptions. Further on the Design: The newer employ of hand woven silk also remarks a specific use of banana silk, a conservation-conscious element and one notably difficult to dye. In this case, the yarns were dyed in-house to ensure colorway harmony true to our quality-conscious reputation in the industry, and we’re quite proud to have achieved the same weighty body and durability as our previously recognized Scandinavian Kilim with this new, iconic look and texture. The unique weaving process and equally distinct result furthers, if not exemplifies, the original spirit with which Josh founded this collection—as both a means of honoring the Scandinavian movement and contributing to it as a modern maker. The noticeable differences from a labor of love in a hand woven flat weave rug speaks to us in Scandinavian Watson with a refreshing new energy—one that captures the honorific intention of the collection, the effort of its creators, and the collaborative spirit Josh aspires to as a known creator after 40 years of industry knowledge accrued. Further on the Material: The use of an all-natural banana silk—named for its origin in recycled banana leaves—adds a conscious element of conservation that subtly attests to the original Scandinavian weaving traditions. Similar to our use of undyed natural yarns in our other Scandinavian textures, this pays tribute to the Scandinavian weaving tradition of using excess yarns and interweaving them into ‘finished’ pieces for an all-together new look—materials previously recycled, discarded or otherwise repurposed for something both respectful and brand new.
