Hand-knotted in wool circa 1960-1970, a rare vintage Isparta rug from Rug & Kilim’s repertoire of mid century pieces. On the Design: This particular rug makes its way to our European rug collection, both for its take on French Aubusson and Savonnerie rug sensibilities and its possible attribution to the works of Zeki Muren. Its design features a medallion with regal floral borders and accents drawing on the French style. Both this and its fabulous, unusual choices—namely its delicious, saturated pink background and other playful colors seldom-seen in this regal transitional style—speak to its veritable origins as a Muren rug. It’s an extremely collectible and gorgeous find in its period either way. Condition: The piece thrives in good condition. The full pile is exceptionally rare given its likely attribution to this artist and the few works of this quality that remain today—a one-of-a-kind masterpiece.
