Handmade in Morocco circa 1950-1960, this vintage Moroccan rug is an uncommonly spacious Moroccan runner of this period, as unique in size—given the limited loom space of Moroccan tribal rugs of this period and before—as it is in colorway emphasis on purple. Though often seen as an accenting color, we've seldom seen a Moroccan rug like this emphasize a distinctive shade of purple as it does with a positive-negative play of black and white, prevailing in the interlocking lozenge patterns (widely believed to connote tribal themes of femininity and matriarchal symbolism in the Moroccan rug language). This Moroccan runner is also among those handmade in a textural fabric, lending the very present textural quality that can be seen in the allure of the colorway and the geometry’s sense of arresting movement in this size. Mild wear consistent with the age of this piece, in near-pristine condition this vintage Moroccan rug is suitable to a variety of modern and minimalist interiors in its boldness, while its size lends to hallway and entryway projects open to Moroccan style.
